This project is now complete
Safety improvements and revitalization will take place on Inlet Avenue between Cowrie and Dolphin streets. As there are several medical facilities along Inlet Avenue, please allow some extra time for parking when attending an appointment during construction.
All businesses will be open during construction.
Current Project Status
The project has been awarded to NB Contracting Ltd. Construction is now underway and is expected to complete by end of November 2023.
Tree wells are being installed on the east side from 5536 to 5546 Inlet Avenue. The silva cells have been installed to address the stormwater management plan proposed by TELUS Development located opposite the Sechelt Medical Clinic. This is the first time that the District of Sechelt has used silva cells for a stormwater management plan and tree wells.
The next step is to install the hydro and TELUS duct bank for future undergrounding.
The silva cells being installed.
Parking and Traffic
Flaggers will assist those with mobility limitations or not able to walk very far to visit one of the medical facilities along Inlet Ave.
At times, there may not be parking along Inlet Avenue. Alternative parking can be found on Cowrie, Mermaid and Dolphin streets as well as Starfish and Periwinkle Lanes during construction. Please use caution when driving, wheeling or walking in the area and obey the directions of flaggers.
Message boards will be installed to keep the public up to date. Traffic detours may be required at limited times during construction, but every effort will be made to minimize any inconvenience to the public.
Project Activities
Upgrades include:
Wider sidewalks on both sides of the road;
All the letdowns and slopes off the sidewalks will be designed mobility friendly for ages and disabilities, including wheel chairs and scooters;
Improved safe parking – parallel on either side;
Traffic calming measures and curb design;
BC Hydro underground duct bank for future hydro/Telus undergrounding. Part of the downtown beautification;
New asphalt surfacing;
Tree wells integrated with the stormwater management plan; and
Improved lighting for nighttime visibility.
Funding
The contract has been awarded to NB Contracting Ltd. for $1,108,000. The District of Sechelt received a portion of the funding from the Government of Canada's Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF). The remaining cost of this project will be funded by the District of Sechelt and TELUS Development.
