In April 2022 the Province announced that $2,768,983 was awarded to Sechelt by the Childcare BC New Spaces Fund for the construction of a new childcare facility.
The Sunshine Coast Childcare Action Plan ("Action Plan") needs assessment confirmed that more childcare spaces are currently needed to support our community and there will need to be a significant increase by 2029. Based on the recommendations of the Action Plan, the District of Sechelt applied for a grant to build a new childcare facility in Sechelt.
The facility is estimated to include 77 new spaces:
- 12 children under 36 months
- 25 children aged 30 months to 5 years
- 20 school aged children for before school care
- 20 school aged children for after school care
The facility will be located at 6000 Lighthouse Way, at the corner of Shoal and Lighthouse.
The funding will cover 100% of the design/build contract for the new facility.
